Jentel Artist Residency Award – one month to paint!
I was awarded a one month artist residency at Jentel, in January 15, 2013. it was one amazing month of un-interupted creative space. (Jan 15-Feb 13) It was beautiful, sunny, cold, and quiet. The work is still coming.
There were 5 other amazing artists . We shared a common residence and have private studios. Here are a few more photos of the facilities.
What’s new in the Studio
I’m excited to share some images of current work, work in progress and images of a few images from the archives as well.
The studio is bursting with flowering botanical imagery right now. I’ve been working in a variety of media, integrating printmaking, ink, paint and good old colored pencils. The work is very intuitive by nature. I rarely know where it is headed when I start. I put down color. I put make marks on the paper or panel. I erase, sometimes with an eraser and sometimes with a full out electric sander! I look. I listen. I ask for permission. I ask for guidance. I continue.
Conceptually it’s all about growth, healing and energy, mine and if I get it right, others. This fall I’m excited to be attending a few workshops to learn more about traditional and modern iconography with Mary Frances Dondelinger. My intention is to work on developing a body of work focused on healing and medicinal icons, and continue to explore the use of image, visualization and healing.
I welcome your questions or comments.
