We will work with a holistic process that is grounded in a host of brain science about the right and left brain, the old and new parts of the brain, and the way it all just gets better when you integrate visuals and words. For example, we know that the left brain is really good at sequential, analytical though, and it commands our use of logic and language. All that comes in very handy, especially when we are working on your task plan. The right brain is creative, sees connections, is wicked smart at connecting pattern, and dealing with complexity in a holistic intuitive way. When we combine words and images we fire up the whole brain. Visuals and words combined are powerful in their ability to help us elicit meaning, make connections, spark associations, create and utilize metaphor. It’s the best of both worlds – and it makes a world of difference when you’re planning how to change your life!
Then there are the new brain and the old brain. The new brain is what we usually think about. It takes care of our conscious, cognitive, thinking. The oldest parts of our brain manage most of our decision-making, are the emotional epicenter and regulate motivation. The old brain is where we store memories with emotional significance and ignite the fight–or-flight neurological commands to the body. It is what my colleague Susan Crampton-Davis calls thechange resistant brain.
One research study estimated that 98% of our decision making is actually governed by our old brain, and our old brain is highly change resistant. That’s why goal setting often fails, why resolutions can be hard to keep, why we stew and stir for years sometimes before working up the courage to end or begin something we know isn’t working. The good news is that can change.
One of my special powers is that I help people tether the power of intention to strategic thinking, and use practical tools to stimulate meaningful motivation, prioritization, time management, and overcome obstacles and habits that don't contribute to happiness or success.
Do I have to be an artist? Absolutely not! You use visual language every day. You are wired for it, and in many cases the simpler your images the better. Your map is for you. It just needs to have meaning to you and serve as a symbol and inspiration for your aspirations.
HOW YOU CAN ACCOMPLISH YOUR GOALS WITH BRITT Part 1: PICTURE YOUR POSSIBILITIES and 3 Bold Steps
A 2 month coaching program available with a one to one or group option. We will do four things in the process. 1. Start where you are, looking at your current reality, unpack it and focus your sight. 2. Use guided visualization to imagine where you want to be in your desired new reality. 3. Map it all using the Snapshot of the Big Picture, which includes identifying your 3 Bold Steps (And I do mean BOLD steps. These will most likely make you a little uncomfortable, and that is a good thing! We will talk that through.) 4. Plan for Action! Unpack the 3 Bold Steps and drill down to create a concrete and practical action plan. By the time you complete the program, you will know what steps you need to take next, and you’ll have a framework to inform your decision making.
Part 2: FROM INSPIRATION TO IMPLEMENTATION
Continued support for clients that have completed Part 1. Making a plan is one thing. Implementing it is another, and sustaining momentum is uncommon. In fact 1 in 10 people fail! But you don’t have to be one of them because we will work together to support your success. You will receive practical tools to help you shift your mindset and get better results, and I’ll give you extensive assistance to drill down into the action plan to make sure you have developed SMART goals, and an action plan that really helps you know what to do next. We will work on setting success measures, monitoring, prioritizing and time management. You’ll also learn to recognize and face the less tangible troubles that creep up in the form of resistance, or that pernicious partner… your inner critic. All of this will increase your confidence, give you more control and spur creativity!
